This tour is kind of like the Inka Trail ‘revamped’, but with the same result at the end: of course a visit to the glorious Lost City of the Inkas “Machupiqchu”. OVERALL INFORMATION |
Day 1 : Cusco - Santa Maria (Optional by Bike)
We´ll pick you up at approx. 07:30 from your hotel and then we`ll head in direction of the Sacred Valley. After three hours by car we´ll arrive at Abra Malaga Pass 4350 m (14,271 ft), which is the highest point of our trip. We will stop there for a few minutes to have a look at the Veronica mountain, one of the highest peaks of Cusco region, it is the point where we mount our bicycles and travel for around 3 or 4 hours and for the people who, for whatever reason can`t accompany us on this ride, there is a car behind the group for emergencies that can take you. The destination for this day will be the small village of Santa Maria 1,430 m (4,691ft). During the day we’ll have some spectacular view of the hills and the rain forest and we’ll have time to take some pictures along the way as well to remember the trip.
When we arrive, we will have some free time to rest (or explore) and finally for the adventure lovers there is the options to do rafting in Urubamba River. Afterwards we will all come together to have dinner and later heading to our hostel for the night.

Day 2 : Santa María - Santa Teresa
After early breakfast at approx. 06:00hrs, we´ll hike through the high forest, the original Inca trail, fruit plantations, coffee and coca plantations. We will pass through the tropical forest and we`ll have the opportunities to see some orchids, bromeliaceous, and if we are lucky we can get the chance to see some wild animals. At midday we`ll have a delicious lunch, and afterwards continue hiking until Santa Teresa village 1900 m (6,233ft) where we have hostel and dinner waiting for us. For those who desire lovers there is the option to have a canopy.

Day 3 : Santa Teresa – Machupicchu Pueblo Or Aguas Calientes
We’ll begin at 06:30hrs approx. with a typical breakfast. We`ll go to an even more tropical climate than we have experienced near the ancient city. We`ll walk for 5 – 6 hours on a truck road to the hydro-electric power plant, where there is a sacred ceremonial site, Inti Huatana, and from there we`ll get to Machupiqchu Pueblo trekking on foot, and the path is close to the rail way. When we get to Machupiqchu pueblo we’ll immediately be transferred to our hotel.
That night we will have dinner with our guide as he briefs us on for the next day’s plans before going to sleep.

DAY 04: Aguas Calientes - Machupicchu - Cusco
 With another early rise, we go to the bus station to take the bus to Machu Picchu. This bus takes 25 minutes by uneven track, where we will do tour of the Inca citadel, your tour guide will guide you around for about two and a half hours, to show you the most important sectors of this beautiful and enigmatic Inca citadel and then you will have some free time to wander, explore and take photos. Or alternatively you could decide to climb the mountain of Huayna Picchu (tickets required), where you can see spectacular panoramic views of Machu Picchu, the valleys and mountains that surround it, or visit the Temple of the Moon or the great Inca Bridge. In the afternoon, we will meet in the town of Aguas Calientes, where if you want, you can visit and relax in its hot springs. From here we take the train back to Cusco, and we drop you off at your hotel / hostel. Travel time 4 hours. End of our services.

- A backpack for hiking, 2 pairs pants, 2 pairs of shorts, 4-poles (long and short), several pairs of socks, Sandals, towels, toilet paper, gloves, thermal jacket, a hat for cold days, sunglasses and sunscreen for when the sun comes out.
- A liter bottle of water.
- A Flashlight with spare batteries, matches, knives.
- Hiking boots (preferably waterproof with ankle protection).
- Insect repellent, cream to hydrate the face and/or body.
- A Raincoat (poncho for rain).
- Energy foods (dried fruits, candies, chocolates, cookies, etc…).
- Soap and other toiletries and clothes to change.
- Swimsuit (recommended for the hot springs).
- You should bring appropriate clothing for both hot and cold days of the tour.
- Also, depending on your interest, you could bring a camera or camcorder, binoculars, compass; all such equipment should be lightweight.

- All our programs are with the Expedition train service (for a comfortable price), but if you want another type of service, like the Vistadome train service (first class service) or Hiram Bingham (exclusive luxury Orient Express service), each train service is a different price, which obviously modify the published tour price.
