OVERALL INFORMATION

Day 1 : Cusco – Santa Maria – Hidroelectrica – Aguas Calientes

We`ll leave at 08:30hrs approx., from your hotel. The tour will begin with a nice, scenic ride to Ollantaytambo, and we will have short break for you to take in some of the beautiful scenery in the area.  From there, we`ll continue uphill along a winding path to “Habra Malaga”, which is at 4350 m (14,271 ft.) From that vantage point, we`ll see some of the most amazing landscapes that Peru has to offer.
After a brief stop, we`ll begin our descent into the thick jungle, passing through the different micro-climates that combine the incredible landscapes of the majestic snow-capped peaks with the hot, tropical entrance to the rainforest. We continue along our route until we have reached Alfamayó, where there is a nice, paved road in perfect condition that we can us to continue our journey on.  After that we`ll need to take an unpaved path in order to continue in the direction of Santa Maria, which is located at 1,430 m (4,691ft) We`ll take a moment to rest there before continuing on to the small village of Santa Teresa, where a delicious lunch will be waiting for us. There will be a variety of different foods available to suit every taste.
Afterwards, at around 3:45 pm, we`ll return to hydroelectric plant route and then the train will take us to Aguas Calientes, at which point you`ll be taken to your designated hostels and hostels. If we have time, you can also go and take a relaxing dip in the natural heated waters of the springs, where the town got its name from. At 8 pm, it will be time to enjoy a hearty dinner along with our guide who will be taking you to the ancient citadel, Machu Picchu. At that point, he will go over the plan for the following day and answer any questions you may have. Overnight.

Itinerary

Day 2 - Sunrise at Machu Picchu

You`ll have the option to go up to Machu Picchu by bus or by foot. Breakfast will be served at 5:00 am. The guided tour of the site will begin at 6:00 am and take you around the ruins. Afterwards, you will have some free time to explore until about 11:30 am, which at this point it is time to return down the mountain to the train station. The train goes back to the hydroelectric plant, at 12:35 pm. That means that you have to be in Machupiqchu half an hour before.

Upon our arrival to the hydroelectric plant, we`ll get a private van, which will take us to Santa Teresa. There, we will have a one hour break for one last chance to get some food and to use the restroom before we embark on the final leg of our journey. Then we proceed back to Cusco, returning down the same road that brought us here. We`ll arrive in Cusco around 9:30 pm.
